First Day(s) of Kindergarten!

Thursday was the first day of school. Parents take their kindergartners on this day, and stay for thirty minutes. We met his teacher (Mrs. Johnson), put his supplies away and walked around the school.

He also practiced getting on a bus.
And Friday was the first full day. We walked to the middle school to get on the bus.

Then we got to the school and he was really nervous. But, he was brave and got on the bus anyway. This is when I started to choke up, but not nearly as bad as I thought I would. What did break my heart was this...
As soon as we walked away from Reece, she was so upset! The whole way home she was bawling and saying, "I want Reece." Look at that bottom lip.
He gave lots of details about his first day. He loved it!

Summer List + Random Pictures

Summer List (things we did, things that happened, etc.):

  • Visited Missouri three times and while there, had a slumber party with five cousins, attended the Platte County Fair, and went to the water park twice.
  • Went to the Roland pool a lot. Reece turned into a fish! He swims underwater now and jumps off the side.
  • Contracted four separate cases of strep throat, split equally between Darren and myself. Our children  must be immune. Strep throat sucks far more than I can remember it sucking as a kid.
  • Went to a family reunion on a farm in Illinois.
  • Completed the Summer Reading Program.
  • Had a skunk get trapped under our front porch and die. A hole had to be cut in the deck to remove the decomposing body. A dead skunk is the worst smell in the world.
  • Picked blueberries at The Berry Patch. The kids picked 2.5 pounds of berries and loved it. It's one of my favorite things we've ever done. It was a perfect day.
  • Saw Cars 2 in the theater.
Thing I didn't do this summer: take pictures of any of the above, which is why these pictures are random!

Mostly Caroline

Chasing Reece...

Caroline saw these pictures on the camera and narrated them. On this one she said, "Reece-y is on he's bike, and Caroline is not in she's stroller." She talks a lot. It's non-stop, run-on sentences all day long. It's really cute.

She also sings a lot. Favorites are the ABC song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Down at the Station, and Humpty Dumpty (not really a song) which she pronounces, "Humpsty, Dumpsty". If she knows she has an audience she'll sing a song ten times if you let her.

One picture of Reece, because I like it...

**A couple more cute things Caroline has said...

  • "That's amazing." Or, if she doesn't like something, "That's NOT amazing."
  • She told me one morning while drawing, "Shh. I'm concentrating."
  • Sometimes she refers to people as bodies. She asked me one time, "What's that noise?" and after I said I didn't know, she said, "It's a mean body outside." And, another time we saw a woman putting her baby in the car, and Caroline said, "That body is putting that baby in that car." I think she's trying to say somebody.
