Another Basement Update

This may not look like an update on the basement, but it is! The biggest reason for our water problem (besides unusually large amounts of snow melting and 10 inches of rain in four days) is the grade of the yard. So, we had it re-graded. I wish I could take credit for this, but all I can say I did was make some phone calls to landscaping companies and make a few decisions. Everyone kept telling us we could do this ourselves! Really? With what tractor and with what time?! It took a crew of professionals two weeks.

Anyway, they did this nice little surround around the big tree in front. This has nothing to do with water issues.

They installed three window wells (window wells allow for dirt to be built up higher) and a rock bed with a dwarf lilac bush and some other things that I don't remember the names.

The plants are so much smaller than I expected. This is the south side of the house with autumn joy somethings and some kind of reed grass and hibiscus plants (is it obvious I know nothing about landscaping?). This is the side that the water comes in first. They built this about a foot higher than it was.

Some more shrubs in back.

And a new patio in back that doesn't slope toward the house.

And the best part of this is watering...

Just kidding. I spend hours a day watering grass seed and sod and moving the sprinkler around. They also cut down a very annoying tree and some huge, overgrown bushes. So glad this is done!
