Explanations

It's been over two weeks since the last post. In my defense, we didn't have Internet for nine days (which seemed like nine months) and then I've had some kind of nasty cold/sinus infection for a week. So, here are some random things that have been going on...

• Darren went on a four day vacation (also known as a bachelor party) to North Carolina. He had a good time, but was definitely ready to come home. While it's not exactly fun to take care of the house and two kids by myself (though I've done it many, many times before and for longer stretches of time), I'm glad he got to go. He works very hard so a vacation was well deserved. And my "vacation" is coming in August.

• Darren has also been working a job with the CN with "regular" hours. Regular hours for the railroad go like this: He's off on Monday, then takes a train to Sioux City, stays the night, takes a train back to Fort Dodge, gets home after the kids are in bed, then leaves again in the morning to do it all over again. So, he's home three nights a week for about twelve hours each night. (I'm a little exhausted).


• Reece has tried some new foods! They are by no means "health foods" but we're taking baby steps here. We can't go from only chicken nuggets to grilled chicken with a side of broccoli. His new foods are fish sticks (he says, "the chicken in them tastes funny"), jello, and pudding. He's also eaten some homemade chicken nuggets which are just chicken breast chunks coated with breadcrumbs and sauteed in a little oil. I've tried this many times before but he's just now trying them. Again, not so healthy, but it's a start.


• Caroline has started humming along to music. So cute! Also, when you ask her, "What does a cow say?" she says "Mmmmoooo." Pretty good, huh? Then you ask her what a duck or sheep says and she also says, "Mmmmoooo." Not quite as impressive.

Some pretty flowers that bloomed on our tree. They've since dried and fallen off, but they sure were pretty for a few days.
