Yesterday, we started our Advent Calender. We've never done this before and I'm sure we'll be doing it every year. So far they've gotten little presents (a miniature engine and freight car for Reece and miniature farm animals for Caroline). Some days we'll do candy and a couple of times we'll do some fun, family activities. We'll also do some things that have to do with The Christmas Story, so it's not completely commercialized. This is so much fun for them (and me).
And this calender was handmade by me. It's 24 individual, hand sewn pockets with hand embroidered numbers. I googled "felt advent calender" then shamelessly copied this.
The tiny ornament on the string keeps track of what day we're on. I think I lost something like two days worth of sleep doing this. If I were to sell one of these, I think I would charge $200 just for labor alone:)
